Happiness on a budget

Having an overwhelming week or does it feel like your attention is caught in many corners and a downward spiral is imminent? Hopefully what I'm about to share with you will point you in the right direction.

Edges laid, lips stained burgundy to match the pencil skirt holding unto my figure for dear life, snatched ponytail dropping nicely behind my back with lashes fluttering in the mild wind softly dancing on my cheeks. Sun-kissed whilst taking soft brisk steps towards my G65. On opening the doors, getting ready to wheel out of my 4 bedroom maisonette in Ikoyi, the car alarm goes off loudly causing me to shut my eyes and ears. The sound doesn’t stop until I open my eyes to meet my room and phone alarm going off, it’s 4:05 am and I need to get ready for work as traffic waits for no one.

Finally getting a bus, one without window glasses and the door doesn’t close, I'm totally focused on getting to work without being late. Just then thunder crackles and lightning flashes, a heavy downpour has begun. Soaked and drenched in addition to forgetting my balance when I got off the bus and scurried off to safety under a nearby shade just beside my office, all I could think of was a single moment of happiness to brighten my day.

Understanding that it was a whole week to salary credit alert, I started to think of things to do that could put a smile on my face. It had to be budget-friendly and something I enjoy. Just then, Domino’s sends me a buy 1 get 1 free promo deal on one of their sizzling medium-sized pizzas on the menu. Now that is definitely happiness on a budget.

It is almost certain that everyone has been in a similar situation at one time or another. Having a mindset of staying happy regardless of the circumstance can just be connected to engaging in that activity that brings back happy memories. Joggling a business, career, relationship, family, school, logistics, or any of these whilst maintaining a good mental state can be stretching. Finding happiness in the little things, not waiting for something already made but birthing it from your actions can be quite satisfying. Although it is possible to find fulfillment in working hard, Lagosians may just argue that statement as every day seems to stretch you more than the last. Need a place to unwind? Here are a few budget-friendly spots in Lagos:

Here are our bonus tips - No matter the hustle, do make out time to grab a cup of ice-cream at Coldstone at half the price on promo days, get to see a movie at IMAX on Wednesday at a cheaper rate or make a budget for your favorite Yakoyo meal, order and devour on arrival.

In the words of Charles Surgeon, it is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy that makes happiness.

Redirecting your mindset, training your habits, and focusing your finances too can help you inculcate a lifestyle of being happy. Honestly, I think everyone should have a happiness budget for those days when the going gets a little tougher than usual and you just need to take a breather, trust me you will definitely thank me later.
